If you’ve played mobile games for more than five minutes, you’ve probably seen those Hero Wars ads—puzzles where you pull pins, avoid lava, and save some poor hero from an untimely death. Seems fun, right?
So, I did what any curious gamer would do. I downloaded it.
And, well… surprise, surprise—that’s barely in the game.
The Ad vs. The Reality
The ads make Hero Wars look like a brain-teasing puzzle game, but in reality, it’s another hero-collecting, battle-the-dark-forces, build-your-team, pay-for-gems extravaganza. Not that there’s anything wrong with that—except that’s not what we were promised.
To be fair, the pin puzzles do exist, but they’re small, occasional snippets thrown in almost like the developers are saying: “See? We didn’t totally lie!”
What the Game Actually Is
If you’ve played any mobile RPG in the last five years, you know the formula:
✅ Collect heroes (overpowered and ridiculously designed, of course).
✅ Upgrade them with coins, materials, and gems.
✅ Battle your way through waves of enemies, an arena mode, and guild events.
✅ Grind or pay-to-win your way to dominance.
But here’s where Hero Wars is slightly different—you can actually earn premium gems for free.
Wait, What? A game that gives you gems for FREE? (Not sponsored btw!)
Through a system called Unity Rewards, you can earn gems by completing challenges in other mobile games (this might vary by location). I tested this out by playing Merge Dragons, and surprisingly, it worked!
• You get 312 gems per challenge (capped at 5 per day).
• That’s 1,560 gems per day just for playing another game.
• There’s no direct link between the two games (so far), but hey—I’m basically playing two games at once and getting paid in gems.
Not a bad deal, right?
The Verdict: Should You Play Hero Wars?
🎮 Gameplay: Repetitive but polished. If you like hero-collecting RPGs, this is just another one in the pile.
💰 Pay-to-win? Mostly, but at least there’s a free way to earn gems if you don’t mind playing another game.
📖 Storyline? I tried. I really did. But I just couldn’t get into it. If you actually read the Hero Wars story and think it’s worth following, leave a comment and convince me to give it another shot.
Final Score: ⭐⭐ (2/5)
Hero Wars technically didn’t lie—they just baited us with one feature and delivered a completely different game. The puzzles exist, but they’re tiny compared to the hero-collecting, battle-focused core of the game. If you’re into that kind of gameplay, you’ll probably enjoy it. But if you came just for the puzzles… well, you’ll have to settle for the scraps they give you.
What do you think? Have you played Hero Wars? Did you get tricked by the ad too? Let me know in the comments!
